Local SEO is about showing up when someone searches “plumber near me” or “dentist in Lahore”. Google decides who appears in the map pack mostly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change distance, but you can improve the other two. Here is the order I would work in.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
This is the biggest single lever. Pick the most specific primary category (for example “Italian restaurant”, not just “Restaurant”). Add your real opening hours, phone number, website, services and a short description. Upload real photos of your shop, team and work, and keep adding new ones.
2. Keep your NAP identical everywhere
NAP means Name, Address, Phone. Use exactly the same spelling and format on your website, Google profile, Facebook, Yelp and every directory. “Street” on one site and “St.” on another creates confusion. Fix duplicates and old listings first.
3. Get reviews and reply to all of them
Ask happy customers for a review right after the job is done. Send them a direct link so it takes ten seconds. Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and briefly. Never buy fake reviews. Google removes them and can suspend your profile.
4. Build one page per service and per area
A single “Services” page is weak. Create a separate page for each main service (for example “Teeth whitening”) and, if you serve several areas, a page for each area with real local details. Do not copy the same text and just swap the city name.
5. Add a local landing page basics
Put your address, phone number and an embedded map on the contact page. Add LocalBusiness schema markup so search engines read your details clearly. Make sure the site loads fast on mobile, because most local searches happen on phones.
6. Build local citations and links
List your business in trusted directories for your country and industry. Then look for local links: sponsor a local event, join your chamber of commerce, get featured by local blogs or news sites. A few relevant local links beat many random ones.
7. Track the right numbers
Check calls, direction requests and website clicks in your Google Business Profile insights. Track your ranking from different spots around your area, since local results change street by street.
Common mistakes
– Using a PO box or virtual office as your address
– Stuffing keywords into the business name (this can get you suspended)
– Ignoring negative reviews
– Having different phone numbers on different sites
Quick start for this week: claim your profile, fix your NAP, ask your 10 best customers for reviews, and write one proper service page.
